Architectural Study Tour

The School of Architecture Planning and Design is conducting an Educational Architectural Study Tour From 23rd Sept-27th Sept, 2025 05:30 am onwards.

An educational study tour is a vital component of architectural education as mandated by the Council of Architecture (CoA), which emphasizes learning through direct exposure and field experience. It bridges the gap between classroom teaching and real-world practice by allowing students to engage with the built environment in its authentic setting.

Study tours provide experiential learning, enabling students to observe architectural styles, construction methods, spatial organizations, and material applications beyond theoretical drawings. In line with CoA’s objective of imparting holistic architectural education, these tours encourage students to understand context and culture, exploring how geography, climate, and social conditions shape design responses.

Through documentation, sketches, and case studies, students develop analytical and representational skills, aligning with CoA’s focus on skill-based learning. They also gain exposure to both heritage structures and contemporary innovations, fostering a balanced appreciation of tradition and modernity.

Moreover, the collaborative environment of tours enhances teamwork, communication, and leadership, while professional interactions with architects, engineers, and communities build industry orientation. In essence, as per CoA’s vision of producing sensitive, competent, and innovative professionals, educational study tours serve as a transformative pedagogical tool that inspires creativity, strengthens knowledge, and prepares students for architectural practice.

AIM of the Event:

  • To provide experiential learning by exposing students to real-life architectural works, urban spaces, and construction techniques beyond classroom knowledge.
  • To develop contextual understanding of how climate, geography, culture, and society influence architectural design and planning.
  • To enhance professional skills through documentation, field sketches, analysis, and interaction with architects, engineers, and local communities.
  • To bridge tradition and modernity by studying both heritage structures and contemporary architectural innovations for sustainable design learning.
