The Basic Life Support (BLS) Training program is an essential life-saving educational event designed to provide participants with the fundamental skills and knowledge required to respond effectively in medical emergencies. Organized with the goal of empowering healthcare students, professionals, and community members, the training focuses on equipping individuals with the ability to deliver prompt and appropriate care in critical situations such as cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, or choking, before the arrival of advanced medical support. The event commenced with an introductory session explaining the importance of Basic Life Support in emergency medicine. Expert trainers and certified instructors guided participants through the principles of early recognition, immediate response, and continuous chest compressions—the cornerstone of life preservation. Attendees learned that in many cases, survival depends on the speed and quality of the initial response, making BLS skills vital for both medical and non-medical individuals.
A key highlight of the training was the hands-on practical demonstration. Participants were divided into small groups to practice Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques on adult, child, and infant manikins. Trainers emphasized maintaining the correct hand position, compression depth, and rate to ensure effective circulation during CPR. Additionally, participants were trained to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)—a portable device that analyzes the heart rhythm and delivers an electric shock to restore normal rhythm in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.
Another important segment of the training included airway management and choking relief techniques. Participants practiced the Heimlich maneuver and learned how to respond if a person becomes unconscious during choking. Emphasis was placed on maintaining composure, assessing the scene for safety, and calling for emergency medical assistance promptly.
Throughout the session, trainers highlighted the “Chain of Survival,” which consists of early recognition of cardiac arrest, early CPR, early defibrillation, and effective post-resuscitation care. Each link in this chain was explained through real-life scenarios, enabling participants to understand their role in saving lives. Apart from technical training, the event also promoted teamwork, communication, and leadership skills during emergencies. Participants engaged in simulated rescue situations that required coordination between team members, enhancing their confidence and readiness to act swiftly in real-life incidents.
AIM of the Event:
- To enable participants to recognize and respond promptly to life-threatening emergencies.
- To train individuals in performing effective Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children, and infants.
- To teach the correct use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- To educate participants on managing airway obstructions (choking) safely and effectively.
- To promote understanding of the Chain of Survival and its importance in emergency care.
- To develop confidence and competence in providing immediate basic life support until professional medical help arrives.
- To encourage teamwork and communication during emergency response situations.
- To raise awareness about the importance of timely intervention in saving lives.
