Educational Visit

The Radiology Department at Subharti Hospital, Dehradun, is one of the most advanced diagnostic units, equipped with modern imaging technologies essential for accurate disease detection and patient management. During the educational visit, students had the opportunity to observe the functioning of this department closely, gaining valuable practical exposure to radiological procedures and safety practices.

The department houses a wide range of imaging modalities, including Digital Radiography (DR), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, Portable X-ray units, and specialized imaging sections such as Mammography, C-Arm fluoroscopy, and OPG for dental imaging. Each modality is managed by trained radiologists and skilled radiographers who ensure accurate imaging, efficient workflow, and patient comfort.

Students were introduced to various aspects of radiology such as patient preparation, positioning techniques, image acquisition, and quality assurance. They also learned about essential radiation protection principles, including ALARA, shielding methods, exposure factor selection, and maintaining safe working distances. Demonstrations on CT and MRI scanning helped students understand cross-sectional imaging and the importance of protocol selection in diagnosing specific conditions.

The staff explained how radiology plays a crucial role in emergency care, trauma evaluation, oncology imaging, obstetric scans, and interventional procedures. Students also observed the workflow of digital image storage through PACS, report generation, and communication between radiology and clinical departments.

AIM of the Event:

  • To provide students with real-time exposure to advanced diagnostic imaging technologies.
  • To bridge the gap between theoretical radiology concepts and practical clinical application.
  • To familiarize students with the workflow of a modern hospital Radiology Department.
  • To understand patient preparation and positioning for various radiological procedures.
  • To observe radiation safety practices and learn the principles of ALARA.
  • To study the functioning of major imaging modalities such as X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Fluoroscopy.
