Educational visit to Dehradun Zoo

The Department of Forestry is organizing an educational field visit to Dehradun Zoo on 28th March 2026 (Saturday) for the students of B.Sc. Forestry (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year). This visit is planned as an integral component of the academic curriculum to provide students with practical exposure and experiential learning in the field of wildlife sciences.

The primary objective of this visit is to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world observation. Students studying subjects such as Wildlife Biology, Ornithology and Herpetology, and Wild Animal Health Management will benefit significantly from direct interaction with diverse species of animals, birds, and reptiles. Observing wildlife in a managed habitat like a zoo will enable them to understand animal behavior, feeding patterns, habitat requirements, and adaptation mechanisms more effectively.

The visit will also help students develop a deeper appreciation for biodiversity conservation, wildlife management practices, and the ethical aspects of animal care. In addition, it will enhance their observational skills and encourage scientific inquiry, which are essential for their academic and professional growth.

Faculty members, including subject experts, will accompany the students to provide academic guidance and ensure that the visit remains focused and educational. Interactive discussions and on-site explanations will further enrich the learning experience.

AIM of the Event:

• To provide practical exposure to students by enabling direct observation of wild animals, birds, and reptiles in a managed habitat.
• To enhance understanding of animal behavior, feeding habits, and habitat requirements as part of Wildlife Biology, Ornithology, and Herpetology studies.
• To familiarize students with different species diversity and their identification, classification, and ecological significance.
• To develop knowledge about captive wildlife management practices, including housing, nutrition, and health care of animals.
