Expert Talk on Intellectual Property Rights

The School of Management and Commerce (SOMC) is organizing an Expert Talk on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” on 26 February 2026 for its students. The session aims to provide comprehensive knowledge about the importance, protection, and strategic use of intellectual property in today’s competitive business environment. Intellectual Property Rights play a crucial role in safeguarding innovations, creative works, trademarks, designs, and patents, thereby encouraging entrepreneurship and economic growth.

The expert session will cover key aspects of IPR including patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indications, and industrial designs. Students will gain insights into the legal framework governing IPR in India, major regulatory authorities like the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, and the role of international bodies such as the World Intellectual Property Organization. The speaker will also discuss real-world case studies to help students understand how intellectual property is managed and protected in business and corporate sectors.

The session is designed to enhance awareness among students regarding innovation protection, startup culture, brand building, and research commercialization. It will also guide students on how to file for patents and trademarks, the significance of IPR in digital content creation, and its relevance in academic research and entrepreneurship.

Through this expert interaction, SOMC students will develop a deeper understanding of intellectual property laws and their practical applications. The session will be interactive, allowing students to ask questions and clarify doubts, thereby making it a valuable learning opportunity for aspiring managers, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

AIM of the Event:

  • To create awareness among students about the concept and significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the modern business environment.
  • To provide detailed understanding of different types of IPR such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications.
  • To familiarize students with the legal framework and regulatory bodies governing IPR in India, including the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
  • To encourage innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking by highlighting the importance of protecting intellectual assets.
  • To guide students on the process of filing patents and trademarks and understanding the documentation involved.
