Field Exposure Visit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Wildlife Conservation: A Case Study of Malsi Deer Park, Dehradun

The Department of Zoology/Botany and EcoLife Club, School of Allied Sciences, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University organized a “Field Exposure Visit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Wildlife Conservation: A Case Study of Malsi Deer Park, Dehradun” on 27/02/2026 at Dehradun Zoo, Malsi, Uttarakhand.

The visit was planned as an experiential learning activity to bridge the gap between classroom teaching and practical exposure in the field of wildlife conservation and biodiversity studies.

As mentioned in the activity proposal, Dehradun Zoo serves as a living laboratory where students can directly observe diverse fauna, curated botanical collections, and conservation practices.

The rationale behind organizing the visit was to address the limitations students face when studying wildlife behavior, ecological interactions, and conservation strategies solely through textbooks. Real-time observation of species adaptations, habitat design, and ecological niches enabled students to gain a deeper scientific understanding.

Approximately 30 B.Sc. and M.Sc. students from the Departments of Zoology, Botany, and Environmental Sciences participated in the visit . The activity also aligns with the Animal Behaviour Lab curriculum, which requires visits to zoological parks or wildlife areas to observe and document behavioral activities of animals.  Students enhanced their skills in species identification, field-note documentation, analytical observation, and interpretation of animal behavior in controlled yet naturalistic settings.

The event strengthened interdisciplinary learning by integrating zoology, botany, and environmental sciences. It also promoted awareness regarding wildlife protection, environmental ethics, and sustainable conservation management. Overall, the field exposure visit provided meaningful academic enrichment, practical insight into biodiversity conservation, and motivation for future research and innovation in wildlife studies.

AIM of the Event:

  • To enable students to observe and study wildlife species and plant diversity in a naturalistic environment.
  • To understand ecological interactions, habitat design, and conservation practices implemented at the zoo.
  • To complement theoretical learning with hands-on exposure and field-based observations.
  • To encourage scientific curiosity, inquiry-based learning, and critical thinking in biodiversity studies.
  • To promote awareness about wildlife protection, environmental ethics, and sustainable conservation management
