Guest lecture on Modern Surveying and Mapping Technology - GPS and CORS System
About the Event
The Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering & Computing, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University will organize a One-day Guest Lecture on “Modern Surveying and Mapping Technology – GPS and CORS System” on 09 September 2025 in the Seminar Hall, First Floor, SOEC Building. The session will be conducted by Mr. Harish Hemdan, Officer Surveyor, Uttarakhand Geo Spatial Directorate, Survey of India. The lecture will be attended by B.Tech (2nd, 3rd & 4th year) and Diploma (2nd & 3rd year) Civil Engineering students along with faculty members.
Mr. Hemdan will share his extensive knowledge and professional experiences in the field of modern surveying. He will provide detailed insights into Global Positioning System (GPS) and Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) technology, emphasizing their application in accurate mapping, infrastructure planning, and geospatial analysis.
The lecture will include live demonstrations of GPS receivers and an explanation of how CORS networks enhance positioning accuracy. Students will be briefed on the role of Survey of India in maintaining geospatial databases and how such technologies are transforming land surveying practices in India.
The interactive session will allow participants to clarify technical queries and understand the integration of advanced surveying tools with GIS platforms.
This session is expected to significantly enhance the technical knowledge and practical exposure of all attendees.
