The Department of Fashion Design organized a Hands-On Workshop on Home Décor in collaboration with Shri Nityanand Swami Jan Seva Samiti (Regd.) to promote creativity, innovation, and sustainable design practices among students and community participants. The workshop was conceived as a practical learning platform where participants could explore various techniques and materials used in home decoration, blending traditional artistry with contemporary aesthetics.
The primary objective of this workshop was to enhance participants’ understanding of design principles, color harmony, spatial arrangement, and the creative use of eco-friendly and locally available materials. Through this initiative, the department aimed to promote skill development, self-employment, and an appreciation of handmade crafts that contribute to sustainable living and interior well-being.
The workshop began with an introduction to the concept of home décor, followed by live demonstrations by experienced trainers and artisans. Participants learned to create decorative wall hangings, table décor items, and other interior accessories using waste and natural materials such as jute, fabric scraps, bamboo, and terracotta. Emphasis was laid on recycling and reusing resources to design aesthetically pleasing yet environmentally responsible décor pieces.
Throughout the session, students and participants actively engaged in hands-on activities, exploring their creativity and enhancing their craftsmanship. The facilitators provided individual guidance, sharing valuable tips on finishing techniques, color combinations, and market-oriented product design. The event also emphasized the scope of home décor as a potential avenue for entrepreneurship, inspiring participants to convert their creative skills into small-scale business ventures or self-employment opportunities.
The collaboration with Shri Nityanand Swami Jan Seva Samiti (Regd.) further strengthened the social outreach aspect of the workshop by encouraging community involvement, women empowerment, and promotion of local handicrafts. The joint effort successfully reflected the shared vision of fostering skill-based education and cultural preservation through practical training.
The workshop concluded with an interactive feedback session where participants shared their experiences and displayed their creative outputs. Certificates of participation were distributed to acknowledge their enthusiasm and achievement.
Overall, the Hands-On Workshop on Home Décor proved to be a fruitful and inspiring event that combined creativity, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. It not only enriched the participants’ design knowledge but also instilled confidence, innovation, and awareness about sustainable home aesthetics and the importance of preserving traditional craft values in modern living.
