National Farmer's Day

The School of Agriculture, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University is celebrating National Farmers Day (Kisan Diwas) with great enthusiasm to honour the invaluable contribution of farmers to the nation’s food security, economy, and sustainable development. Observed every year on 23rd December, National Farmers Day commemorates the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, a visionary leader and strong advocate of farmers’ rights and agrarian reforms. The celebration aims to acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and resilience of farmers who form the backbone of India’s rural economy and play a pivotal role in ensuring nutritional security for the country. Through this event, the School of Agriculture seeks to create awareness among students, faculty members, and the wider community about the challenges faced by farmers, including climate variability, resource constraints, market fluctuations, and the need for sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices. The programme highlights the importance of modern agricultural technologies, organic and natural farming, efficient water and soil management, and integrated pest and disease management for enhancing farm productivity and farmers’ income. Various academic and interactive activities such as expert talks, student presentations, discussions, and awareness sessions are planned to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical farming realities. The celebration also serves as a platform to inspire students of agriculture to develop empathy towards the farming community and to motivate them to contribute meaningfully to rural development through research, innovation, and extension services. By recognizing the dignity of labour in agriculture and promoting farmer-centric approaches, the event reinforces the university’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and rural empowerment. Overall, the National Farmers Day celebration at Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University not only pays tribute to farmers for their selfless service to society but also encourages collective efforts toward building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural future.
