Workshop on "Design Thinking Sprint"

Discover & Define marked the foundation of the event, setting the tone for an immersive and insight-driven design journey. The day was structured around two impactful sessions—Session 1: Industry Immersion and Session 2: Design Thinking Sprint—designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world problem solving.

The day began with Industry Immersion, where participants were exposed to authentic, real-world challenges sourced directly from industry contexts. This session aimed to familiarize participants with current market trends, user expectations, and business constraints. Through expert-led discussions and case-based examples, students gained a deeper understanding of how design problems originate in real scenarios. Industry insights helped participants view problems beyond surface-level symptoms, encouraging them to think critically about feasibility, impact, and user value.

Building on this understanding, Session 2: Design Thinking Sprint guided participants through a structured design thinking framework. The session emphasized core stages such as empathy, problem understanding, and definition. Participants engaged in activities that helped them step into the users’ shoes, identify pain points, and analyze user behaviors, motivations, and challenges. This hands-on approach enabled them to connect emotionally with users while maintaining analytical rigor.

A key focus of the day was problem discovery and problem framing. Instead of rushing toward solutions, participants were encouraged to slow down and deeply explore the “why” behind each challenge. Using tools such as user personas, empathy maps, and brainstorming techniques, teams collaboratively synthesized insights and translated them into clear, actionable problem statements. This process ensured that the problems defined were user-centric, relevant, and aligned with real industry needs.

Overall, Day 1: Discover & Define laid a strong conceptual and strategic foundation for the subsequent phases of the event. By combining industry exposure with design thinking methodologies, participants developed a structured mindset for approaching complex problems. The day successfully equipped them with the skills to observe, empathize, analyze, and define—essential steps that would guide them toward meaningful and impactful solution development in the days ahead.
