World Pulses Day (Poster Making & Display Competition, Pulse-Based Food Demonstration, and Pulse Nutrition Awareness Session) )

The Department of Agriculture, School of Agriculture, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University organized the celebration of World Pulses Day on 10th February 2026 under the AG-VENTURE Club at the SoA Building. The event was designed to create awareness about the nutritional, economic, and environmental importance of pulses, aligning with SDG-3: Good Health and Well-Being.

World Pulses Day is globally observed to highlight the role of pulses in ensuring food and nutritional security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and supporting healthy dietary habits. Keeping this objective in focus, the department conducted a series of engaging and educational activities, including a Poster Making & Display Competition, Pulse-Based Food Demonstration, and a Pulse Nutrition Awareness Session.

Students actively participated in the poster-making competition, creatively depicting themes such as nutritional benefits of pulses, their role in combating malnutrition, soil fertility improvement through nitrogen fixation, and sustainable food systems. The posters were displayed within the SoA premises, encouraging peer learning and visual engagement among students and faculty members.

A pulse-based food demonstration was conducted to showcase simple, nutritious, and affordable recipes using commonly available pulses. This session emphasized the importance of incorporating pulses into daily diets to improve protein intake, particularly in vegetarian and rural communities.

The nutrition awareness session focused on the health benefits of pulses, including their role in preventing lifestyle diseases, improving digestive health, and ensuring balanced nutrition. The session helped students understand the relevance of pulses in addressing malnutrition and promoting overall well-being.

Overall, the event successfully enhanced students’ awareness, creativity, and practical understanding of pulses as a vital component of sustainable agriculture and human nutrition, while fostering innovation, participation, and community-oriented learning.
